Water makes up about 50 to 60% of our total body weight. Water levels can make our weight fluctuate by as much as 2 – 5 pounds in a single day. When water builds up in the body, it can cause bloating and puffiness, especially around your tummy, legs and arms.

WEIGHT LOSS TIPS // 9 science-backed tips to lose weight + keep it off

Most weight loss tips don’t work long-term because they focus on quick fixes. In this video, I’m going to share 9 science-backed tips that do work and have research to back them up. These are the tips that helped me lose 40 pounds gradually and keep it off.

I was 160 pounds at my heaviest weight and today I am just below 120 pounds – at the time of this video I am 119 pounds. My height is just a tad under 5′ 5” (165 cm).

I lost the weight in two phases. In phase 1, where I drastically reduced my sugar intake and increased my daily activity, I went from 160 pounds to 140 pounds.

Then, I hovered between 135 and 140 pounds for most of my twenties. In my thirties, I decided to drop some more body fat to reduce my risk of diabetes. I went from 135 pounds to 120 pounds in my mid-thirties. This was the hardest weight to lose and it didn’t drop off as easily as the first 20 pounds. I focused on eating whole, unprocessed foods and daily activity (exercise and non-exercise related too) as well as other lifestyle and nutrition changes.

The tips in this video have helped me lose the excess weight and also keep it off. These aren’t changes to make for a short period of time. These are all long-term changes that require consistency. When it comes to weight loss, CONSISTENCY is key. There are many different ways to lose weight, so do what works for you, but keep it consistent.

What is even worse is that there are a ton of strategies out there that can hinder your efforts. Because there are so many different strategies and people telling you what works, it’s difficult to know who to trust.

8. Measure Your Weight on a Daily Basis: How you value yourself should never be determined by a number on a scale. There is no wrong way for your body, and even a healthy weight can fluctuate between 2-5 pounds throughout the day.

This type of trick can also expose an obsessive personality that you may have. Be your number one supporter. Research has shown that when we focus on just losing weight rather than being fixated on a certain number, we have better luck in reaching our goals. Our weight fluctuates every day, depending on a number of factors. One of the biggest factors is water weight. If you ate a particularly carb heavy meal the night before and step on the scale, it is entirely possible for the scale to jump up 5-10 pounds. This doesn’t meant that you miracuously gained 10 pounds overnight! Your body is just retaining water. It is perfectly normal for our weight to fluctuate every day, but some people tend to obsess over this fluctuating number, which can be unhealthy and ruin their progress in the long run. The verdict on this trick is that it is bad advice!

7. Eat A Lot of Mini-Meals. Throughout the day, many people think that if they substitute the three major meals we’re required to eat per day with many small meals, they will lose weight.

6. Cooking from Scratch: The type of food we choose to eat has the biggest impact on maintaining healthy weight. So not only does cooking from scratch give us control over the ingredients we’re going to consume, but preparing a meal actually transforms us from a consumer to a producer.

5. Start a Juice Cleanse: Consuming nutritious fruits and vegetables through the means of juicing is great for switching things up, but there is no way your body will be able to sustain that weight loss on a daily basis.

4. Snap a Picture: If you can find the time to send a picture of every meal you consume to a nutritionist, you would be incredibly dedicated to making your weight loss goal. Starting a meal diary might sound silly, but it will help you think more carefully of the foods you eat because your posting them.

3. Taking Weight Loss Supplements: Some weight loss tips are just ways for big companies to earn money. Take weight loss supplements, for example. Research has proven that there is no way to substitute frequent exercise and healthy eating with supplements. Buying weight loss supplements is equivalent to flushing your money down a drain. They are a great addition, but there is no supplement out there that can make you lose weight without exercise and healthy eating.

2. Eat Less Calories: This tip depends on your eating habits. If you are constantly overeating, then yes you should eat fewer calories. But it can also be dangerous when fewer calories are going in than out. You may see a reduction in weight loss; it can also put a lot of stress on the body.

1. Listen to Your Cravings: Your cravings may be constantly trying to tell you something you’re not realizing. If you are having fat cravings, it means you aren’t consuming enough healthy fats. If you are getting salt cravings, it could mean that you have adrenal fatigue.

– Fat isn’t always the culprit when it comes to extra inches around the midsection. If you’ve just recently noticed that you’re not fitting into your clothes the way you did not so long ago, it’s more likely to be a result of bloating and water weight.
– Bloating is definitely not fat. It’s air or gas that collects in your gut and causes the stomach to feel tight, full, and swollen.
– Consuming more ginger is another bloat-reducing trick. You can drink it as a tea or eat it fresh.
– Much sodium (which is the stuff that’s in salt) causes the body to retain more water.
– Your biggest ally when it comes to reducing water weight is…water! Surprising, right? But it’s true; the more water you drink, the less liquid builds up in your body!
– Carbonated drinks make you bloated and gassy.
– The lifestyle changes were a no-brainer. Instead of the elevator, you should take the stairs; instead of parking near the entrance to some place, you should park further away and walk; instead of sitting in front of the TV all evening, you should go for short 15 to 30-minute walks.

Are there any ways to lose weight besides diet and exercise? There are many tricks that can help you lose a bit of excess weight in just 2 weeks. We’re going to share with you 15 tips that can help you get rid of excess belly fat. Most people don’t even know about these tricks!

Science proves that people burn less fat when they sleep during the day and are active at night. A group of researchers from the University of Colorado studied 14 healthy people for 6 days.
During the first 2 days, subjects slept during the night and didn’t have daytime naps. Then they changed their sleeping patterns to imitate owls’ sleeping schedules. It turned out that when people took a nap, their metabolism worsened since their biological clocks didn’t completely flip to fit their schedules.

– When your sweet tooth kicks in, you’re often tempted to chug a can of soda or some fruit juice. However, if you’re determined to lose weight, this sugary addiction must stop.
– According to Dr. Margriet Westerterp-Plantenga of Maastricht University, drinking green tea may help because it’s loaded with antioxidants called catechins, which enhances its fat-burning capabilities.
– According to a study by scientists at Ohio State University, you crave unhealthy snacks more when they’re within your reach.

– Sincere laughter uses about the same amount of energy as walking since it involves different muscles, especially abdominal ones.

– When you eat frequently, you let your body know that there’s no need to accumulate fats. When we skip a meal, we send the opposite signal — and we tend to eat more.
– Anthropology at Kyushu University showed that bright light confuses our brain, which then stops producing melatonin. Our metabolism is tightly connected to our sleeping patterns and the amount and quality of our sleep.
– Nutritionists recommend that you stop focusing on calories and pay more attention to the quality of the products you eat since not all calories are equal.
